LinkedIn Profile

Do you ever feel like your LinkedIn profile is an undiscovered island just waiting for visitors to arrive, but they never do? Well, I have good news for you my friend, below are four tips to help you change that scenario today! Are you ready? Let’s do this!

Keyword Optimization: As you know, LinkedIn is a professional site where people are looking for people just like YOU; however, they don’t know you or your name so how will they find you?

They will find you through keyword optimization.  Just so you know, problem-solver and great networker are NOT keywords.  You NEED easy words that tell what you do, what industry you are in, where you have worked, what certifications you have etc.

Here’s an example of a Good keyword for someone in Sales: Account Manager.  Too generic: Sales.

Search Results: LinkedIn has over 300 million members, so you can’t expect people to just find you. You must make the search results stand out. You do that by creating a newspaper worthy headline.  The default in LinkedIn is your current job location and title. Pretty boring. You need something more detailed to stand out. Here is a good header example for Sales: Account Management | Process Improvement | Business Analysis | New Business Development.

Get Active: To get noticed you need to be active. So, start participating in groups, giving status updates and connecting with people.  Remember, LinkedIn is about connecting – it is networking in the virtual realm!

Get REALLY Active: Endorse people. Recommend people. Again, connect with people!  You may think endorsing and recommending others seems a bit silly, but truth be told it matters. Recruiters, hiring managers, and prospective employers look at those. You may not be looking for a job now, but you never know what opportunities will arise in the future so be prepared.  And, don’t forget when you recommend someone it shows up on your profile and their profile, so your connections and their connections see it. A great ripple effect and way for YOU to acquire more connections.

I hope this month’s LinkedIn tips for driving people to your profile prove useful for you, friends!

Cheering for you!
