Companies Still Hiring During the Coronavirus
With million

Americans filing for unemployment last week, it may be a surprise to you that many companies are still hiring right now – some are even hiring more than they were pre-pandemic!

Let’s explore some of the companies that are still hiring.

Communication and Distance-Meeting Companies

Zoom, Slack, and Microsoft are all hiring right now in efforts to keep up with the surge in online meetings and schooling.

Childcare

With many working parents now faced with finding childcare as children are out of school, this is an opportune time to enter the childcare field. Consider creating a profile with reputable sites like Care.com, Urban Sitter, Sitter City, or a local agency.

Grocery Stores

Many of the larger grocery stores are still hiring shelf-stockers, people to fulfill online orders and delivery staff. Stores, including 7-Eleven, Dollar General, Kroger, Publix, and Walmart are all hiring. Check with your local stores for more options.

Delivery Services

Instacart, Uber, DoorDash, Amazon, Shipt, and UPS are all hiring, as their services have seen a sharp increase in demand during the coronavirus quarantine.

Online Education Companies

Not only are children out of brick-and-mortar school for the time being and taking classes online, but many adults are also using this time to further their education and sharpen their skillset. Many online education companies are taking on new hires, including VIPKid, Udemy, K12, and Outschool

Healthcare

The increase in paranoia over health has put strains on many different aspects of the medical industry. Companies like CVS Health, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and GE Healthcare are hiring like mad.

Retail Sales

Not surprisingly, home improvement stores like Lowes, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware are all hiring. Additionally, Target is hiring for its stores and distribution centers, as well as BJ’s Wholesale Club

Restaurants

Most restaurants are switching to pick up or delivery options only, and there are quite a few chain pizza places hiring right now, such as Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Little Ceasars.

Think Outside of the Box

My mom, a farmer’s daughter, always taught us to “make hay when the sun shines.”  That means doing what you have to do when the conditions are right. For example, I recently started sewing, donating, and selling masks. There is a considerable demand for masks right now. While I didn’t realize it would become a 30-hour a week job for me (not kidding!), I’m embracing the challenge. Not to mention that I’m making a bit of side money, donating masks to healthcare workers and the elderly, and giving some of the money to family and friends who are out of work. I will “make hay (masks) while the sun (coronavirus) shines” as long as the conditions call for it.

What skills do you have that you could market for a little side-hustle?  Are you good at carpentry?  Can you sew like me?  Are you good at repairing electronics?  Can you babysit? The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.

Remember, there is no shame in a paying job of any kind. We believe this to be always true, but especially during a pandemic.  There is no shame in doing what you have to do to feed your family and keep a roof over your head. Get out there and get after it.
